The Intelligence quotient or IQ is a number describing the intelligence of people in comparison to the rest of the population. The original definition of IQ when measuring the intelligence of children was: IQ is a ratio of the mental age to the physical age multiplied by 100. The mental age was calculated on the basis of the average results in a test in the respective age category.
IQ is an abbreviation of Intelligence Quotient. So, OK, but what is IQ? The IQ is a measurement of your intelligence and is expressed in a number. It’s an estimate also, there will always be a given amount of measurement error. A person’s IQ can be calculated by having the person take an intelligence test. The average IQ is 100 by definition. If you achieve a score higher than 100, you did better than the average person, and a lower score means you (somewhat) performed less.
French psychologist Alfred Binet created the first intelligence test in the early 1900s. However, modern IQ testing in the United States stems from the work of Henry Herbert Goddard. Goddard was a psychologist who earned his doctorate in psychology from Clark University in 1899. He translated the Binet test from French to English. This test was used to test basic intellectual functions in U.S. school children and to support mental health diagnoses.
IQ tests “measure a set of skills that are important to society,” notes Scott Barry Kaufman. He’s a psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. But, he adds, such tests don’t tell the full story about someone’s potential. One reason: IQ tests favor people who can think on the spot. It’s a skill plenty of capable people lack. It’s also something Kaufman appreciates as well as anyone.
The IQ test can be used for many reasons. It allows determining one's level of being able to learn, to understand, to form concepts, to process information, to apply logic and reason, in comparison to the population. It is indicative and can represent an influence on non-common characters that can be encountered in society, whether relational such as isolation, rejection or distance, or intellectual such as ease or difficulties encountered in intellectual activities. In another way, it can also explain successes acquired in ways easier than others by individuals.
The IQ test we offer is used internationally by millions of users and new users take it every day. The statistics provided and established by the totality of the results make it possible to verify its reliability in relation to the calibration IQ scale system represented by the Gauss Curve.
For the first time, IQ score was introduced in France at the beginning of the 20th century. After that, the Intelligence Quotient multiple-choice test was considered to be the most complete by expert Hans Eysenck. The test became extremely popular in Europe in the 1950s. To measure IQ score, you need to take the standardized IQ test. The goal of these tests is to analyze ability on language, mathematics, image processing as well as the memory and processing speed of each person. The standard IQ tests used by clinical psychologists to diagnose are also complex. The scores given at the end are relative and adjusted based on the research results of many people at the same age.
The most real IQ test is the Wechsler Intelligence Scale. It is the most widely used intelligence test for children in the world. It consists of a variety of tasks that are designed to measure different abilities related to intelligence. These tasks include verbal and non-verbal reasoning, visual perception, working memory, and processing speed. The test is administered by a psychologist who evaluates the child's performance and determines his or her IQ score.
The most popular intelligence test is the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS), which measures intelligence in adults. The WAIS is composed of 11 subtests, which measure a variety of cognitive abilities, such as verbal comprehension, arithmetic, and perceptual reasoning. Other popular intelligence tests include the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale and the Woodcock-Johnson III Tests of Cognitive Abilities.
